Archive Footage, 1963

1963: John F.Kennedy was assasinated, Martin Luther King delivered his famous "I have a dream" speech at the Civil Rights march in Washington DC, and the Beatles had their first number 1 hit.

Meanwhile, at Alderley Edge Golf Club the annual Gala day competition was unfolding, filmed by former club Captain Alec Ames. Unfortunately the cine film from which a DVD was made did not have a sound track, but the images are really interesting and one or two familiar faces can be seen, including Margaret Morton. The rough looked particularly fierce, especially on the 8th hole.

The DVD will be show in full at one of the Centenary events, however here are a few snippets from Gala Day and also a winter scene. The file sizes are quite large so you will certainly need broadband to download these in a reasonable time. All are . mpeg format. Enjoy !
