The Centenary Year begins..........

The traditional New Year's Day "Drive-In" by the Captain and Lady Captain took on far greater significance as the 2007 renewal of this event also marked the official start of the club's Centenary year. A large number of members and guests gathered to witness the proceedings.

As for the drive-in, The Captain managed 169 yards, and Lady Captain Celia hit a respectable 151 yards in fine but slightly windy conditions. The Captain's son Joe won the prize for guessing the correct distance of his dad's hit, and Margaret Morton won the sweep on Celia's drive.

Graham and Margaret Sumner generously donated the Centenary Trophy to the club and presented it tothe Captain and Lady Captain. This will be competed for at the end of July, with each section within the club holding qualifying competitions.

The flag is hoisted on the new flagpole.

Also, the Centenary Committee have commissioned a number of AEGC Centenary Plates for selected competition winners in 2007. Jerry Dixon received a plate from the Captain and Lady Captain in recognition of the writing of the Centenary History book, which will be useful as he probably won't win one with his golf ! Brian Lowe received a momento as thanks for creating the Centenary Wall and new flag pole, and the Centenary Committee also received gifts from the Captain and Lady Captain.

Let's hope 2007 is a year to remember....it's certainly got off to a great start.
