Vice Presidents’ Challenge Bowl

The weather was excellent and the course in super condition for this year’s renewal of the VPCB. Morning players certainly relished the conditions with Tom Lawton (69-4=65) and Andy Slater (72-7=65) in early. Although not eligible for the trophy and the watch yours truly somehow managed to get it round in 69 for a nett 62, to win the bottle of malt whisky played for by the VP’s.
Rick Ford came in with another 65, but unfortunately put one over the fence on 16 for a seven, and Luke Foden also had a 65, but Andy Slater took the trophy and the watch on a card play-off. Harry Sexton shot a gross 68, despite a 6 on the last, to come down to 1 handicap (it is some years since we had a 1 handicapper), and Tom Lawton also came down a shot to 3; these boys really are getting good !

The Captain thanked the Vice Presidents for the prize, and asked Brian Foden to come forward to make a donation to his charity. It would seem that his son, Luke, had managed to take 11 shots to get out of the charity bunker the previous week !! Fodder, why are you paying your son’s debts ??!!

After the formalities we settled down to watch the England - USA match. Whilst our greens were good the same could not be said for England’s Green !!

Nearly 60 people enjoyed a carvery meal ahead of the evening presentation.
First prize went to Ron and Jill Blench from Macclesfield GC with 40 points.(Pictured below receiving the trophy from the Captain and Lady Captain)

2nd prize was won by Paul and Joanne Farley of Brookfield GC with 38 points.
3rd prize went to our own Captain and Lady Captain with 37 points (card count back)
4th prize was won by Roger Greenhalgh and Val Lewis of Sutton Hall GC also with 37 points
5th prize was won by the President and Lady President with 36 points.

Nearest the pin on the 6th was won by Angela Paton (1.36m).

The event also raised £110 for the Captain and Lady Captains’ charities.

Well done everyone!
