New Members' Area
The web site has grown significantly since it began in 2000, and it is the club's objective for it to become the primary means of communicating with the members. Via the web, communication can be instant, and this method also allows the club to reduce the cost of administration, stationary and postage. For those who do not have web access, a PC is being installed in the clubhouse.
It is necessary, in order to benefit from the features now possible over the web, to re-design the Members' area completely [although it will actually look almost exactly the same]. Part of the reason for this is that it is not reasonable or desirable for one person, namely me, to perform all updates to the web site in addition to the design work required to implement the features we want to use. It will also be nice to have other people's views and comments placed on the web. It is therefore necessary to implement a Content Management System [CMS] which permits authorised members / committee members to post articles on the web site without any form of programming knowledge. I've chosen ExpressionEngine as the core CMS, as it is extremely rich in features, is easy to use, has a superb support community behind it, and it is incredibly cheap for a non-profit organisation such as ourselves.
The second major change is that if the web is to become the primary means of communicating with members, the area must be secure. It will therefore be necessary for each member to register, and then log in with his / her chosen login and password. A feature of this is that logged in members can see the details [name, phone, email, address etc] of all other registered members. A secure on-line club diary in effect. The rules for registration are shown as you register.
Having registered, your application will be approved and an e-mail sent to you confirming this shortly before the launch on MARCH 25TH . You then have access to the site when it goes live. Please remember your login and password [although there is a facility to recover this if you do forget]. Please don't be tempted to re-register if you lose your login details. You do have access to your own control panel where you can make changes to your details; please keep them up to date. You also have the facility to send messages to other members via your control panel.
It is very important that if your details change eg e-amil address, that you update your profile on the system.
We will no doubt be "feeling our way" with this technology, but the benefits really are well worth it. Further features will evolve over the coming months, and Alderley Edge Golf Club will be at the forefront of member communication with this web site.
The new Members' Area of the web site will go live on 25th March, 2007, and from this date you will need to log in to gain access. So please sign up and join our on-line community.
Thanks
