Message from Mr. Captain regarding Captain's Day

I would like to thank everyone who played in, helped out and participated in my Captain's weekend.

The standard of golf was excellent and my congratulations must go to a very worthy and popular winner in Luke Foden.

My thanks extend to everyone but I must single out a few individuals:

Duncan - you were a tremendous help; Tim Hoare, Stuart Hall, Paul Broome and Luke Foden - your efforts on the barbecue etc. were worthy of  Saturday Kitchen. Jennie, Jackie and the bar staff, thanks for all you did. Lady Captain and Hilary for your help on Saturday night. Drew Sutton for manicuring the patio and the 4th. Les Harding and the ground staff for the way the course was presented. Tony Hall and Charlie Hill for your kindness and generosity.

Jack Unsworth and Gordon Smith for a very enjoyable 4 holes, it was a privilege to play with you. Mark Seymour for checking the cards. Mr President for his kind words and all who attended the presentation. Our professional Charles for his help and last but by no means least The Marple Band for providing such wonderful and moving music.

If I have overlooked anyone please forgive me.

Congratulations once again to the winners but even if you weren't among the prizes your all winners in my book.

Thank you all for making my weekend such a memorable one.

Kestrel-Cam pay us a flying visit

Duncan and Steve from Kestrel-Cam recently visited the club, with their remote drone, to carry out aerial photography of the course. When the video is complete you will be able to view it from the website and see the course and every hole as you’ve never seen it before! Watch this space.

There are a few photos from the session they spent at the club.

Captain's Weekend - 25th/26th July 2015

May I invite all members to join me to celebrate my Captain’s Weekend on 25th/26th July 2015.

The celebrations start with the round 1 of the Captain’s Prize on Saturday morning following by a ‘Social’ at 7.30pm in the Clubhouse.

The Social is free entry to all members, friend and families to enjoy the music of the brilliant Marple Brass Band, featuring Duncan our Steward playing the tuba.  A bucket collection will be made on the night to show your appreciation of the band.

Catering will be a BBQ from 7.30pm

Sunday sees those Gents who have made the cut battle with the course for the Captain’s prize.

As the weather will be perfect, a drink on the patio after the conclusion of play will bring my Captain’s weekend to a close.

AEGC represented at the World Series Turkish Airlines Golf Finals in Belek, Turkey

On Thursday of last week Simon Barber, our Director of Marketing, played in the Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup qualifier at Royal Birkdale and managed to win the event. This now means he has an all expenses paid trip including business class flights and a 7 night stay at The Voyage Golf and Spa resort in Belek, Turkey to play in the World Series final against the other 70 regional winners from across the Globe at the end of October. The top 20 will play in the Pro/Am the day before the Turkish Open at the Montgomerie Maxx Resort and everyone will get VIP tickets to all 4 days of the Turkish Open itself.

This is a prestigious event for Amateurs and we are delighted that Alderley Edge will be represented by Simon who sill be mixing it with the stars of the game.

Here is a picture of Simon collecting his trophy. A little shocked perhaps?

He has already drawn up his shortlist of caddies from all the offers he has received and will be in touch in due course.

Cheshire Boys v Derbyshire Boys

Mr. President, Mr. Vice Captain and the volunteers of AEGC welcomed teams from Cheshire and Derbyshire to play their mixed age group match over 27 holes on Monday 6th July.

The 9 hole morning foursomes were played in reasonable weather but as the singles tee'd off the weather deteriorated sharply in the afternoon.

Officials from both Cheshire and Derbyshire were in attendance from early morning and His Honorable John Roberts, President of Cheshire presented Mr. Vice Captain with a shield to show their thanks to AEGC for hosting this Inter County match.  Mr. President went on to thank the Greens Staff, Bar Staff, Steward and Club Administrator for the work that had gone into the preparation of the day.  He also mentioned the respective Junior Organisers from Derbyshire and Cheshire who put so much work into County Roles
