Congratulations to the 72 golf hole challenge team
On a gloriously sunny day, the Captain and his team of 12 golfers from Alderley Edge Golf Club succeeded in completing their 72 golf hole challenge in support of the Captain’s Charity - Macmillan Cancer Support. Starting at 4:20 am they completed their 4 rounds at 8:45 pm to a warm welcome from a large group of supporters who came to the club to cheer them home. A magnificent achievement for all the 12 golfers.
During the day, the scores from each course produced individual winners: Paul Penney (AEGC morning round), Ollie Lane (Mottram Hall), Gavin Elly (Styal) and Steve Bennett (AEGC evening round). Paul Penney had the best overall score for the 4 rounds.
On the 72nd hole, the Captain held his nerve to play a magnificent shot out of the Captain’s bunker, watched by the large group of members and friends. An informal social evening followed, with food and drinks plus entertainment from Harmonix Vocal Collective. An excellent evening was enjoyed by everyone.
In his speech, Simon Barber, the Captain, was very pleased to announce that he had been able to raise at least £5,500 towards his target of £10,000. He then thanked all those involved: the other 11 golfers who played the 72 golf holes, Chris Hoyland and the catering staff, Harmonix Vocal Collection for their performance and to all the staff, members, friends and supporters who worked to make the day a success and contribute so much to the fund raising for the Captain’s charity.

Vice Captain's Day out - Friday 15th June 2018
On Friday 15th June, the traditional Vice Captain's 'Day Out' took place. The course of choice this year was the delightful Trentham Park Golf Club near Stoke. After a breakfast, and presentation by the General Manager, 39 AEGC Members set off on 18 holes around a well presented, mature parkland course. This was followed by a cracking meal and drinks in the Clubhouse, and the much awaited results. Steve Yakub and Paul Short won the nearest the pins, each winning vouchers for a 2 ball at Trentham Park and a sleeve of balls. The main prizes of the day were vouchers in our Pro's shop at AEGC. They were as follows. 4th place - Dan Mace -£25. 3rd place - Chris Hoyland - £50. 2nd place - Gary Johnson - £100. 1st place - Charles le Sueur - £150.
A great performance by all. An even greater performance by our Pro, who, having won the day, without hesitation, donated his winnings to Mr Captains Charity. Thank you Charles. A great day concluded with a wonderfully presented cheeseboard and Port back at HQ! Thank you to everyone who supported the day!
