Alderley Edge Golf Club – LOCAL RULES

OUT OF BOUNDS (Rule 18.2) In, over or beyond:

• Any hedge, wall inside edge of fence posts or line of white stakes defining the boundary of the course
• The boundary ditch to the left of the 3rd/12th holes
• The car park and paths, patio and flower beds surrounding the Clubhouse
• The white stakes and boundary ditch to the right when playing the 5th/14th holes only
• The stakes supporting the net behind the 2nd/11th green
• The white stakes to the left of the 7th/16th holes.

OBSTRUCTIONS (Rule 16.1) The following are defined as Immovable Obstructions:

• Young trees marked with stakes or yellow tags
• Man-made paths within the boundaries of the course
• The drain plugs on the 5th/14th & 6th/15th greens
• The net surrounding the 17th white tees
• The fence surrounding the 4th and 13th tees
• Sprinkler heads
• The small trench (OOB 5th) to the right of the 6th/15th

GROUND UNDER REPAIR (Rule 16.1)

Ground Under Repair is marked as GUR and/or by an unbroken white line. The flower beds to the rear of the 4th/13th and clearly defined hoof or tractor tracks in the general area* are defined as Ground Under Repair.

PENALTY AREAS (Rule 17)

Red stakes identify penalty areas and where red lines exist they define the margin.  If there is no red line then the marker posts will identify the margin of the penalty area.  Should a line or post not exist then the margin should be taken along the natural limits of the penalty area.

The following penalty areas can be found on the course:

• The Whitehall Brook which crosses the course.
• The Black Brook / Drainage Ditch to the right of the 1st green.
• Penalty for Breach of local Rule
• Match play – Loss of Hole: Stroke Play – Two Strokes

* Note for clarification

The term ‘general area’ covers the entire course except for the four specific areas of the course described in Rule 2.2b, which are:

• The teeing area the player must use in starting the hole they are playing (Rule 6.2),
• All penalty areas (Rule 17),
• All bunkers (Rule 12), and
• The putting green of the hole the player is playing (Rule 13).

SPRINKLER HEADS (clarification of local rule)

Relief from interference by immovable obstructions may be taken under Rule 16-1b.  In addition, if the ball lies in the general area  and an immovable obstruction on or within two club-lengths of the putting green and within two club-lengths of the ball intervenes on the line of play between the ball and the hole, the player may take free relief by dropping the original ball or another ball in this relief area.

Reference Point: The nearest point of complete relief in the general area.

Size of Relief Area Measured from the Reference Point: One club-length, but within these limits:

• Must be in the general area,
• Must not be nearer the hole than the reference point, and
• There must be complete relief from all interference by the immovable obstruction.

Exception:  A player may not take relief under this Local Rule if interference by anything other than the immovable obstruction makes the stroke clearly impracticable.

Penalty for breach of Local Rule:  Match play – Loss of hole; Stroke play – Two strokes.
