Business Ladies

Sadly our good run of results came to an end on Sunday when the Business Ladies played away at Didsbury losing 2-1.

They did battle through awful weather conditions, perhaps we need to only play when the sun is shining!

Ladies Open/Invitation

A good selection of visitors and members enjoyed a very sociable day at the 9 hole triple tester competition. On a pleasant, if cold day, the prize winning teams all scored a creditable 43 points. Visitor prize went to Jill Higgins, Wendy Higgins and Kay Atkin from Macclesfield GC, runners up were the team from Davenport of Lynda Jones, Pam Perry and Carole Tonge. Home team winners were Lisa Burns, with her guests from Hale, Tessa Day and Caroline Perkins. Runners up on a card playoff were Wendy Rule and her team - two familiar faces, Sue Watson (Vale Royal) and Jane Eastaugh (Woodside). Nearest the pin winners were Lady Captain and Wendy Rule and the Putting Prize went to Chris Jones from Delamere, Helen Edwards' guest.

Thanks to Fizz, Pheonix cards and Buttercup for providing an opportunity for a little retail therapy and to all the ladies who provided raffle prizes and cakes. Over two hundred pounds was raised for Lady Captains Charity (boosted by the money for the twos club as no one got a two!)

Sunday Blog

Wow, what a week for the ladies teams. 3 consecutive wins commencing with-

Thursday, Friendly match,

Alderley vs Ringway at home. Well, what happened to the weather, blue skies and sunshine. Gone are the winter boots, coats and woolly jumpers and out come the summer shoes and polo shirts..

Two previous days of sunshine had firmed up the course and the greens were running faster.

With the match complete the players came in for sandwiches and delicious home made cakes following which Alderley were declared 2/1 winners

Everybody agreed it had been a lovely day and Ringway are looking forward to the return match.

Friday, 9 Hole League

Away at Ashton on Mersey.

It was a 5.30 start and the temperature had certainly dropped. Ashton is a well kept course with some tricky holes and the river Mersey running alongsde the course.

Each team comprised 3 pairs if ladies, but with Ashton having few lady members, my partner and I found ourselves up against a pair with one player with a handicap of 4. My initial thought was that someone had missed off a number before the 4, but then came the shocking realisation that she did in fact play off 4.

Anyway, never say die, after all we did get shots!

It was a close match with one loss and one win, but with all the Stableford scores needing to be added together to decide the winner, it fell to LC and her partner who came in with a good score to give Alderley the overall win.

Friday, Bell Cup away at Styal, report below.
