Lady President's Day

Lady President's Day finally got under way on Tuesday, and while we didn't get wall to wall sunshine, it was certainly better than the deluge of a couple of weeks ago!

It was lovely to welcome quite a few ladies to the presentation who had not played and I would like to thank everyone who took time to come back and have a drink and a bit of banter.

Liz McGuire won with 34 points with Gwyn Holt second ( 33 points ) and Anne Thornber third (32 points )

Margaret Sumner won the 9 hole competition.

Well done and thanks to all who took part.

Ladies Exchange Day

Tuesday evenings weather forcast was viewed with dismay because it showed rain and the following day was Alderley ladies Exchange Day at New Mills and, even with wonderful panoramic views, New Mills course is not a place you want to be in pouring rain.

But Wednesday morning arrived minus the heavy rain and, okay there were a few showers, but we can cope with those.

As it happened, due to a society booking at New Mills in the morning, we were unable to go out until 1 o'clock. This proved to be to our advantage as when our first tee time approached the sun came out and it became pleasantly warm.

After all the teams had played, the ladies came in to a very welcoming, cosy room where good food was consumed and after a couple of glasses of wine the prize winners were announced.

The puttting competition was won by Tracy McGregor on 33.

Nearsest the pin was Celia Berent and the longest drive was Olwen Davies.

The 9 hole competition was won by Margaret Sumner, but the team competition was won by Val Hornsby, Lady President, Yvonne Grundy, Lady Captain, Gwyn Holt and Karen Pennington with a tremendous score of 95.

Well done ladies!

New Mills very generously donated  a free 4 ball voucher which was won by Mary Beckett in a draw.

Oh well, that's the Exchange Day over for 2017, enjoyed by everyone and always good fun.

Ping 4BBB Results

In the Ping 4BBB competition, 885 clubs took part with the highest score being 53 points.

To qualify for the Grand Final a cut was made at 46 points , with 41 clubs entering.

In the Plate Final, the cut was made at 45 points with 81 clubs entering.

The standard obviously was extemely high and unfortunately our winners on the day did not qualify. Better luck next year.

Elsie's Tour 2017

The annual overnight trip from the ladies section, this year to Breadsall Priory, Derby was yet again deemed a success. Returning home with sore muscles, not from handling the steep undulations of the Priory course, but from laughing to excess (those of us who were thereknow the reason for that.....!) everyone was pleased that the golf on Monday was not played in the costumes reflecting this year's theme of "the sound of music". Various Maria's, a novice nun, a lonely goatherd and goat, doh a deer, some favourite things, plus a couple of sounds of musics were all on parade at breakfast, to the amusement of the rest of the guests.
