Ladies AGM

At a well attended AGM, Lady Captain, Alison presented the trophies won during the year.

Alison said how much she had enjoyed her time in office and was delighted to have raised over £1000 for her nominated charity, The British Heart Foundation.

She thanked the committee for all their support and help during the year.

Lady Captain then presented Yvonne Grundy as the new Lady Captain for 2017 and passing over her badge of office.

In the absence of Lady President, Gwyn who was unfortuately unwell, Yvonne introduced Valerie as our Lady President for 2017.

Below are pictures of some of the prize winners.

Closing Sides

Here are some of the ladies enjoying a glorious day in the autumn sunshine. Lady President's team managed to reverse the Opening sides result and win and received a potted plant each for their efforts. We enjoyed a lovely meal afterwards and welcomed some new faces to the section - Jo, Heather Janet and Helen, all full members ,Barbara, Jo and Tracy who are introductory members. I am sure they will soon feel at home and we look forward to them playing with us over the winter in the competitions and the roll ups.

Lady Captain and Lady President would like to thank everyone who played and /or attended the lunch for a very enjoyable day.

We could not have had a better day weather wise to end the summer season, it was just a shame my team did not win. But that is golf! Congratulations go to Lady President and her team- well done ladies.

I would also like to thank Claire Roberts and Lisa Burns for organising the event and Hilary for overseeing all the catering.

Congratulations to all the prize winners who were presented with a variety of prizes from the summer season.

Enjoy your winter golf.

Mr Presidents Day

This was won aptly by Gwyn, our Lady President, with 39 points. Olwen followed with 35 points and just behind her was Mary scoring 34 points. Celia pipped Karen to the nearest the pin by the smallest of margins and was delighted with her prize of a new visor and a strip of balls. Similar prizes were awarded to Anne Thornber for the longest drive on the 12th and nearest the pin in three on the 18th was won by Gwyn, who did par the hole...

A very good day was had by all and we were all very well looked after by Mr President.

Seniors and Ladies

Mary's Blog.

How quickly time passes! It doesn't seem 2 minutes since the Seniors vs Ladies competition heralded the start of the season and everyone was looking forward to playing golf in the sun ( that was of course before the rain started ).

Now Friday 23rd September brought the Seniors and Ladies competition which spells the onset of the closing games of the season.

With a shortfall in the number of ladies playing, 7 teams went out, 3 teams of 2 ladies and 2 men, 4 teams of 1 brave lady and 3 men, but the mix worked well. Everyone had a very enjoyable day aided by the dry and sunny weather.

The winning team of Celia Berent, Dave Atkinson, Steve Saunders and Peter Croome came in with a resounding score of 54 points, so very well done to them.

Match Results

On Saturday the business ladies , Gwyn, Wendy and Karen played in their quarter final match against Hazel Grove.

This was played at Birchwood golf club near Warrington. Sadly the result was a win to Hazel Grove but well done for getting as far as the quarter finals.

On Monday the Shield B team were also at Birchwood playing their quarter final match against Warrington. The weather was atrocious, pouring down for most of the 18 holes and squeegy mops being used to dry off the greens. It was such a close match, 3 all with one match to finish which went to the 18th hole but the victory was to Warrington. After drying out, we all enjoyed tea together.

Thanks to the team of Wendy, Celia, Gwyn, Marion, Valerie, Sue, Olwen and others who have turned out for all our matches this season, we did very well.

Exchange to Alsager

Sun and warm temperatures met a cheerful group of Alderley ladies as they arrived at Alsager on the Exchange Day organised by Lady Vice Captain. As usual, there was plenty of chat and laughter as a lovely meal was served. Winners were Lady Captain Alison Roberts with a nearest the pin on the wonderfully named 'Fish and Chip' par three 4th and winner of the putting competition with an impressive 35 points on a count back was Sue Slater. Barbara Moss was the only person with a two (chipping in on the 9th). Third in the team competition and receiving nothing but a mention were Lady President Gwyneth Holt, Wendy Rule, Barbara Moss and Claire Roberts, second prize winners were Lady Captain, Sue Kendrick, Karen Pennington and ghost (Barbara Moss). However, best team score went to Lady Vice Captain Yvonne Grundy, Anne Thornber, Mo Monk, and Angela Atkinson. Well done ladies, and well done Yvonne for organising a really lovely day.
