Elsie's Tour 2017
The annual overnight trip from the ladies section, this year to Breadsall Priory, Derby was yet again deemed a success. Returning home with sore muscles, not from handling the steep undulations of the Priory course, but from laughing to excess (those of us who were thereknow the reason for that.....!) everyone was pleased that the golf on Monday was not played in the costumes reflecting this year's theme of "the sound of music". Various Maria's, a novice nun, a lonely goatherd and goat, doh a deer, some favourite things, plus a couple of sounds of musics were all on parade at breakfast, to the amusement of the rest of the guests.
The Ladies played today in a mixture of cool damp weather this morning followed by hot sultry sunshine for the afternoon golfers.
Claire Roberts had a great round coming first with a score of 40 points, well done Claire.
For those playing this afternoon, the flag on the 13th took on a new dimension, is the golf club becoming more rustic?( please see photograph )
The last Shield match was played at home against Macclesfield G.C. The team of Celia, Gwyn, Valerie, Sue, Olwen, Liz and Julie had a great win 6.5 matches to 0.5.
Below is a summary of the matches played,
Alderley Edge v Bramhall Park at home won 5/2
away lost 3/4
Alderley Edge v Hazel Grove at home won 4.5/2.5
away half 3.5/3.5
Alderley Edge v Macclesfield at home won 6.5/0.5
away lost 2/5
3 wins, 1 half, 2 loses, total 24.5 games
It is a matter of waiting to see if A/E will be in the Quarter Finals which are to be played on the 21st August
Ping and a HOLE in ONE
The ladies played their first Ping 4BBB on Tuesday in pretty wet conditions. 10 teams entered with Lady Captain, Yvonne and Gwyn winning with 40 points.
The top 50 stableford scores in England go through to the Grand Final and the next best 50 scores go through to the Plate Final. Both of these will be held at Gainsborough Golf Club on the 4th and 5th of September so good luck to Yvonne and Gwyn.
To make it an even more special day Liz Gardner scored a HOLE in ONE on the sixth hole during the competition.
Well done Liz, who later treated all the ladies to a glass if fizz in celebration.

Captain's Prize to the Ladies
A grey day was brightened considerably by the great humour of the Ladies playing for the Captain's Prize on Tuesday.
Olwen Davies deservedly won the nearest the pin on the 6th, only a couple of feet from the pin.
Pam Butler won the 9-hole Stableford that was played on the same day.
In 3rd place was Sue Kendrick on a card play-off with 94-19=75. Second was the Lady President, Valerie Hornsby, with the best gross of the day, 90-19=71.
However, the overall winner was Helen Thomson with a 96-27=69. It was particularly impressive as Helen only received her first handicap earlier this year and is rapidly improving. Many congratulations to Helen.
The Captain would like to thank all the Ladies who took part for making it a great day!
