Lady Captain's MacMillan Coffee Morning

Who doesnt like cake and coffee?  Well Lady Captain Yvonne Grundy, does so she decided to hold a coffee morning to support her chosen Charity for 2017 - Macmillan Cancer Support.

Yvonne admits her self that asking people and local businesses for raffle prizes is rather out of her comfort zone but she was delighted to find that so many people were happy to support this worthy charity.

So today was the day and so many members and friends came up to the Club to support Yvonne, eat cake, drink coffee and buy from the stall holders.  The raffle table was heavy with prizes and Amy who is the area manager for Macmillan joined the coffee morning and told us a little more about the charity and how much was raised last year.  Amy was due at 7 coffee mornings so we were delighted she was able to join ours.

Lady Captain is delighted to announce that a massive £1040 was raised on the day.

She thanks everybody involved.

Closing Sides

The format of Closing Sides hasn't changed for many years, only the quality of the jokes varies.  This is a very popular event and the President & I hope it will be oversubscribed on the 28th October again this year.  The entry sheet will be posted after the presentation of the Simister Cup 1st Round on Saturday 7th October.  If you want to be sure of playing, that's the time to be there.  No-one will be allowed to enter other names until all attendees at presentation have had an opportunity to get their names down.  I'll look forward to seeing you then.

Jubilee Vase

The Jubilee Vase was first contested in the year of the Club's Diamond Anniversary, 1967, so this was the 51st time the trophy has been played for.  Scoring was very good as the course was playing very long, although it stayed fine most of the day.  In third place, with 37 points off a 14 handicap was Nigel Pugh, who's now down to 13.  In second place with 38 points, also off a 14 handicap, was Paul Kubiak, who's also now down to 13.

The winner of the Jubilee Vase for 2017 was David Snell, with 39 points off a handicap of 10.  Many congratulations!

Challenge Cup

The Challenge Cup is one of our oldest & grandest trophies, predating the change of name to Alderley Edge GC in 1923 by two years.  This year's competition was played in reasonable weather and low winds, with just one squall to spoil the afternoon, although from the scores, it was clearly playing long after last week's rain.  CSS went up to 69 for the first time for a while.

In 3rd place was Ben Gaunt, with a 67.  In 2nd place on a cpo was Andy Wells with an excellent gross 73-8=65, who also received an Exceptional Scoring Reduction to bring his handicap down to 6.

The winner, with 83-18=65, was Roy Parker, playing in his first Saturday comp off white tees since converting from introductory to full membership.  Congratulations to Roy, whose handicap is now down to 16.

Club Championship

Sunday's Club Championship was played in very wet & difficult conditions.  The victor, and Club Champion for the next year, was Dan Featherstone with 76+74-150, by 4 shots from Andy Wells in 2nd place.  The presentation to the winners will take place at Closing Sides.  Many congratulations to Dan.
