Knockouts reach the Quarter Final stage
Bill Fisher wins the Captain's Prize
A great Captain’s week-end took place on the 21 & 22 July with Bill Fisher taking the golfing honours of the Captain’s Prize over the 2 days.
88 members played the first round with the top 40 qualifying for the second round. Ron Ricketts came out on top in round one with a nett 64 with Bill Fisher and Ollie Lane following closely behind with nett 65’s. There were a lot of tired and hungover players taking part in the second day - Alex Pannell won the day with a nett 69.
Congratulations to Bill Fisher for consistently good scores over the 2 days to win the overall Captain’s Prize with 65-72 to beat Chris Regan by a shot.
The Captain arranged a special evening on the Saturday, with a marquee and the clubhouse decked out with a theme of “Trilbys and Tiaras” and attended by a large number of members, friends and families. Live music was provided by The Incredible Skank Brothers, an amazingly energetic ska band playing all the classics from Madness, Bad Manners and the Specials. They certainly got the clubhouse jumping.
Chris Hoyland provided a superb hog roast along with accompaniments & vegetarian option, and the catering staff were kept very busy on the night.
On the night the Captain thanked all the staff, members, friends and families who contributed to the special week-end.
AEGC wishes to thank the Captain, Simon Barber for organising such a great weekend!
Professional's Prize (Stableford) - Saturday 14 July
This popular annual event was won by Andrew Hogg with 38 points, nudging Ben Gaunt into 2nd place on a card play off. 3rd, 4th and 5th places were also decided on a card play off, 37 points being scored by each of Andy Marshall, Mike Troup and Ken Hall respectively.
Many thanks to professional Charles Le Sueur for donating prizes for the first 5 places and for continuing to support the Gents Golf section so well.
July Monthly Medal
The winner of the July monthly medal and division 1 was Jan Cichocki. Jan's fantastic 63 beat the division 1 runner up Mark Walker by 2 clear shots. Division 2 was won by Pete Burns with a 66. The runner up Andy Boyle scored 67. Pete Burns' 66 was even more impressive when you consider he started his round with a 9 on the first. I will try to remember this next time I start my round poorly, probably next week....
Harold Humphreys Medal- 30th June 2018
Congratulations to Nigel Pugh on winning the Harold Humphries medal event with a fine score of 64 ( 77 less 13).
Derek Shenton was the runner up with 68 with Neil Mc Guinness, Steve Jacub, Ed Lawton, Craig Aston and Logan Stanyer all following closely with 69's.
The wind picked up strongly during the afternoon resulting in some high scoring and NR's !
