5 Club Challenge (Stableford competition) - Saturday 20 August
Conditions were tricky, but not as wet as forecast for this annual tactical challenge. There were some very good scores, with 9 players matching or beating par. 3 players were tied on the winning score of 39 points, the result on a card play-off was:-
1st - Roy Broadhurst
2nd - John Kendrick
3rd - Nigel Howells
Well done Roy, who puts his success in recent weeks down to some excellent tuition from our Professional!
Progressive Stableford - 13th August 2016
A good field contested the progressive stableford four player team event.
The winners were Roy Broadhurst , Steve Lomas, Brian Jones and Brian Boughey with an amazing score of 95 points.
(Roy contributed a five pointer birdie to boost the score)
The runners up were Gavin Elly, Andy Wells, Mike Easton , and Dan Wright with 91 points
Professional's Prize (Stableford competition) - Saturday 30 July
This rearranged competition enjoyed fine weather and some good scoring. Tom Troup won with a tremendous score of 41 points, resulting in a handicap reduction to 9.6 and a double celebration as it was his 16th birthday. Happy Birthday and well done Tom!
Runner up was Bob Anderson (39 points) with Mike Davies (38), Dan Featherstone (38) and Logan Stanyer (37) following closely behind.
Professional Charles Le Sueur presented prizes to all 5 players (and a few more spot prizes) at a well attended presentation. Tom was also presented with the traditional competition trophy - the Harry Pierpoint "niblick" golf club.

Mr President wins the Captain’s Prize
AEGC President, Dave Lee, won this year’s Captains’ Prize played over 2 rounds on Captain’s Week-end - 23rd & 24th July. Leading the field after the Saturday round with a nett 64, Dave maintained his lead on the Sunday to finish with a nett 69 to give him an overall nett score of 133. The final result was very close, with Vice Captain Bill Fisher one shot behind on 134 and Tom Troup & Gary Johnstone on 135.
The large field on the Saturday were greeted on the tee by the Captain, Peter Wood and treated to a gift from the Captain and a welcome BBQ refreshment at the half-way house (gazebo). The course was very well set up for an excellent week-end of golf.
The Captain had organised a superb evening of entertainment with a band and buffet supper enjoyed by members, families and friends.
Many thanks to the Captain for an excellent week-end at Alderley Edge Golf Club.
At the presentation Mr Captain thanked all those staff and members who were involved in the organisation and running of a very memorable event. Mr Captain was very pleased with the contributions made to his chosen charity The Alzheimer’s Society.

Alderley Edge Challenge Cup - Saturday 16 July
Once again the course was affected by very wet conditions, which got worse during the day and resulted in standing water on several greens in the afternoon.
The winner of this prestigious trophy with a fantastic score of 64 playing off 24 - and playing on his birthday - was Pete Burns. Congratulations!
Andy Marshall was runner up with a 66, followed by Oliver Lane (67) and Craig Aston (67).
