5 Club Stableford 10 October 2015
The annual 5 club stableford competition took place on Saturday in perfect autumn weather. Leaving 9 clubs in the locker room/garage did not seem to make a big difference to the scoring as we saw 22 Two's on the day the highlight being a two from Tim Hoare on the 10th! Four players achieved 2 Two's those being Nick Johnson, Simon Barber, Andy Wells and Jerry Dixon. Congratulations to them.
Four players broke net par with Mike Davies and Steve Bennett on 37 points, Matthew Robinson on 38 points but the winner, playing off 5, was Mike Troup on 39 points.
An excellent day enjoyed by most players and no surprise that Mike won through given his ability to manufacture great shots with four clubs and a putter to choose from!
Simister Cup 1st Round (Stableford) - 3 October 2015
After a foggy start, some very good scoring took place in cool but dry conditions, with 11 players under par. In third place was Andy Slater on 40 points, runner up (again) was Mike Fox on 41 points, but the winner with a fantastic 43 points (gross round of 65) was Harrison Peck, which included three 2s.
A special mention must go to Pete Burns, who had a hole-in-one on the 8th hole (unfortunately for Pete, he didn't see it go in!).
Medal Final and Subsidiary Medal - 26 September 2015
In good playing conditions Andy Marshall was the winner of the closely contested Monthly Medal final with a net score of 66 off a handicap of 12.
The runner up was Mike Fox (67)
3rd Billy Bennett (67)
4th Nigel Fetherstone(68)
5th Mike Troup(68)
The winner of the subsidiary medal was Brian Jones with a net 66 on countback from Matt Hodgson .
The photograph of the captain with Andy and Brian was taken by Nigel Fetherstone and captured in the background the rising moon !! An indicator that the season must be comiing to a close soon.
The Comedians Cup-Saturday 19 September 2015
The Comedians Cup, kindly donated by Alan Clarke, took place on Saturday in glorious sunshine. The format was Pairs Betterball Stableford and 74 members competed on the day for the prestigious trophy so named as it includes past winners such as Sir Norman Wisdom and Frank Carson amongst others. Our club has its fair share of comedians too so it is very fitting to have such an illustrious cup to play for. In the end 5 pairs scored 40 or better and in 3rd place on 40 points was Brian Jones and Tony Adderley (countback). In 2nd place was last weeks winner Nigel Pugh with Chris Edwards on 42 points and the winners with a very creditable 44 points was Ben Gaunt and Chris Chatfield. Unfortunately Chris couldn't make it back for the presentation so pictured is Ben receiving the Trophy from the Captain.
Alderley Edge Challenge Cup - Saturday 12th September
A full field ventured out on a rather mixed day weatherwise for the last major competition of the year, the Alderley Edge Challenge Cup.
Steady scoring saw close competition for the win, but Nigel Pugh led the pack home with a net 65.
Nigel Pugh 78 - 13 = net 65
David Snell 75 - 13 = net 66
Bill Fisher 75 - 9 = net 66 (lowest gross score)
Brian Jones 85 - 19 = net 66
