Jubilee Trophy - Mixed Open/Invitation

A pleasantly sunny day greeted the members, their guests and visitors to the Club as a healthy field of 28 teams competed for the Jubilee Trophy. The first prize was won by Julie Ricketts and her guest Steve Carless (Bramhall Park)  with a great score of 43 points, second place to Celia Berent and her partner John Lavin, invited by Mr Captain, with 39 points. Third place with 38 points on a card play off was Andy Holt with Andrea Atherton (Prestbury). The visitor prize went to Margaret and Howard Davies, from Pryor Hayes and Chester GC with 36 points, their first time to the course so well done! Nearest the pins went to Pete Evans (Rochdale) on the 6th and Sue Lord (also Rochdale) on the 13th, with twos for Celia Berent and John Lavin, Peter Davies and Georgina Whalley and Ron Ricketts and Sue Carless.

We were delighted to welcome some long distance guests from Diss Golf Club - Barbara and Dennis, it will be great to see you next year!

Centenary Trophy

The Centenary Trophy, which is open to all categories of player in the Club, was played in pleasant sunshine by a large field.

Solid scoring resulted in Dan Featherstone winning with 40 points. Dan was playing in a group including his father, Nigel, who came in with 38 points, proving that inter-generational rivalry is a great motivator!

The top scores were:

Dan Featherstone              40 points

Gavin Elly                            39 points

Tom Troup (junior)            38 points

Matt Spiller                         38 points

Matt Hodgson                    38 points

Nigel Featherstone            38 points

The leading lady was Olwen Davies on 36 points.

Mixed golf - Friday 27 May

Great weather and excellent turnout for Friday afternoon mixed golf, well organised by Lady President Gwynne (and Andy) Holt. Next event end of June - all welcome.

AEGC - Mixed 9 hole roll up comp - 29th April

The Mixed section will be holding a nine hole roll up style competition on Friday 29th April, hopefully the start of a social golf initiative that will help get everyone and anyone enjoying mixed golf in any combination.
The tee is reserved from 4.50pm and it is hoped around 20 - 24 people will participate in what is meant to be an informal and fun end to the week. Whilst all-comers are welcome, it is hard to gauge interest so it would be helpful, if
it appeals and you fancy giving it a go, if you could let the organiser, GwynHolt know on (gwynethlholt@gmail.com)rather than contacting the Office.Competition fee will be £2, prize pot will be dependent on number of players
and partners will be decided by a draw on the day
Thanks,Gwyn

Spring Surprise

The sun shone (yet again) on the mixed, which was in all fairness, a surprise, given the weather the day before! Six teams played an AMAM format, with some great scores being posted - full handicaps of course for social golf...! Second placed team was Lisa Burns, Brian Foden and Julie and Ron Ricketts with a very acceptable 105 points, first place going to Captain and LC, Celia Berent and John Roberts with an excellent 108 points.(Just in case you think birdies were being played left right and centre, all scores counted on the par threes). Compliments to Duncan for providing a tasty carvery. Please keep your eyes peeled for notices regarding the nine hole mixed roll up on Friday 29th April

Close, but no cigar........

An enthusiastic mixed team threw everything they had got at Davenport in the preliminary round of the Archie Preston. Played away, on a lovely sunny afternoon, it wasn't looking too promising, with Davenport securing three early wins against Alderley's one, (thanks Mr Vice and Celia!). However, the tension mounted as Alderley managed to draw level to three matches all and it fell on the last match to play to a result. Ronnie and Julie Ricketts gallantly played down the nineteenth with a following crowd but were eventually beaten by a spectacular lengthy curving putt from the opposition.

As ever, the match was played in a very social spirit, and despite the distraction of a football match (some sort of local derby?) the conversation flowed over the meal. We wish Davenport well in the competition and maybe next year we'll get a good run in this very enjoyable interclub competition!
