250 Club winners - July 2022

I am pleased to let you know that the 2nd 250 Club draw of 2022 was held on Saturday 23rd July in the clubhouse following the 1st round of the Gents Captain’s Prize competition.

Congratulations to the four lucky winners, as follows:

  • 1st Prize (£400) – John Newsham
  • 2nd Prize (£175) – Andrew Towle
  • 3rd Prize (£125) – Jordan Foden
  • 4th Prize (£100) – Angela Foden

At present, we have just over 100 members of the 250 Club. Nevertheless, we are always looking for more people to join as every contribution goes a long way to supporting the Club. Each number costs only £5 per month, paid via monthly direct debit or standing order; a 250 Club Application Form is available if you would like to join.

We have four draws a year (roughly one every 3 months), with half of all proceeds going towards Club funds and the other half shared out in prizes. If 100 members all pay £15 over 3 months, it would give us £1,500 in the pot for the next draw. £750 of this would go towards Club funds whilst the rest is split between the four winners.

The 250 Club is a really great way of getting members up to the Club for the draw and supporting, in some small way, the future of Alderley Edge Golf Club.

Sunday lunches are back – 31 July

Sunday lunches are back at Alderley Edge Golf Club! They will be provided on the last Sunday of each month, starting 31st July, with service from 12-4pm.

If you fancy a Sunday lunch, please call into the clubhouse or phone 01625 586200 (Option 4) to book your table.

The clubhouse is now open for food 7 days a week from 8am. Come out and check the new menu!

AEGC welcome SP Catering to run the Clubhouse Bar and Catering

Alderley Edge Golf Club are very pleased to announce that SP Catering have been appointed to run the clubhouse bar and catering services, with effect from Monday 4 July 2022.  They have been contracted for an initial period of two years, with the option of extending this annually thereafter.

General Manager Kate Hetherington and Head Chef Steve Porter have many years of experience in the hospitality and catering sectors, including most recently at Eaton Golf Club (near Chester).  They will be bringing kitchen staff Leanne and Rick as part of their team.

All of our current clubhouse employees will transfer their employment to SP Catering.

It has taken a long time to reach the decision to outsource the running of our bar and catering services and to identify and award the contract to SP Catering, and a lot of hard work and effort has gone into this process.  We are grateful to members and our existing clubhouse team for their patience during this time, and we can now look forward to an enhanced catering service at AEGC.

More information about the new catering arrangements, menus etc. will be available in the clubhouse and on the club website in the near future.

Kate and Steve are keen to meet members and visitors to hear their views about ongoing services.  They will be at the club initially each day from Monday 4 – Friday 8 July and look forward to meeting as many members and visitors as possible.

I hope you will join me in welcoming the new team to the club.

Best wishes,

David Lee

54 Hole Charity Golf Challenge and Fish and Chips Supper Friday 24 June

On Friday 24th June I am organising a 54 hole golf challenge, in order to raise money for my chosen charity this year, as Lady Captain of Alderley Edge Golf Club.

The challenge is comprised of three 18 hole rounds of golf at the club starting at 7am and finishing around 7.30pm, similar to last year’s very successful event. I am looking to get as many Gents and Ladies Section members participating in the challenge as possible, whether completing all 54 holes individually or as part of a relay team. Please sign up in the Lobby Area between the Gents and Ladies Locker Rooms to take part. Thank you.

For your information my chosen charity is Shropshire, Staffordshire and Cheshire Blood Bikes. They are run 100% by volunteers and are used to courier urgent medical items, including blood, x-rays, transplant organs, human donor milk etc across the UK. I have set up a Just Giving page for you to donate towards this charity and share with others.

If you aren’t taking part in the challenge then please come along at 7.30pm onwards on 24th June to cheer us along, whilst we complete the final few holes, as well as joining us for a Fish and Chip Supper! The more the merrier!

Your support for this event is very much appreciated.

I look forward to seeing you on 24th June.

Jubilee Texas Scramble and some Monthly Prize Presentations

The Platinum Jubilee Red, White and Blue Texas Scramble was won by Brian and Karen Pennington, ably supported by Gwyn Holt.

In traditional fashion,  the Vice President of the presentation day,  Bob Anderson,  rather hogged one of the photos with an impromptu jig.

Bob presented the Comedians Cup to Jamie McGregor and Ken Hall.

Unfortunately Josh Price, who won the two round medal Hospital Trophy, was on call and was called,  so was unable to attend.
