Ladies Turkey Trot Open/ Invitation

Dear Ladies,

The 2020 Turkey Trot was a great success and well supported by visitors and AEGC members alike with 10 teams in total entered, 3 visiting teams and 17 visitors in all. The competition was played in very wet and windy conditions however this did not seem to stop the players from enjoying this very well organised event.

The winners were:-

First Prize Winners ;  Tina Berry, June Whitfield and Linda Woods from Breightmet Golf Club with 49 points

Second Prize Winners;  Liz Perry, Moira Ellis and Jackie Fenton also from Breightmet Golf Club with 48 points

Third Place; Yvonne Grundy, Liv Bruster and Judy Read from Alderley Edge Golf Club with 47 points.

Nearest the Pin was Linda Woods.

The full list of results for all the teams entered will be available on Tuesday 3rd November in the locker room.

On behalf of the Ladies section, I would like to thank LVC Karen Pennington and Claire Roberts for their hard work organising the Turkey Trot and making it an enjoyable day for all the players.

Thanks also to Sue Kendrick, Liz Gardner and Olwen Davies who ensured the halfway house refreshments and cakes were available for the players and Marion Hall for collecting the cards and confirming the scores. To all the cake bakers, thank you for the delicious selection of cakes for the halfway house refreshments which were appreciated by all the players.

The raffle, donations and the sale of the face masks and cakes raised £250 for the Captain's Charity, Dementia UK. A huge thank you to everyone who donated raffle prizes and to Fiona Anderson's grandchildren for the homemade face masks.

The thanks do not stop here, and also go to Sam Murray, Clubhouse Supervisor and her team in the clubhouse and Jacqui Hewitt, Club Bookkeeper for their help and support for this event.

The Turkey Trot will be in the same week in 2021 and one to put in the diary now due to the popularity of this Open/ Invitation event at AEGC.

Closing Sides Results and Announcements

Dear Ladies,

The 2020 Closing Sides was played in beautiful autumn weather, on a relatively dry course and resulted in a draw. 3:2 for the Lady President's team playing Greensomes over 18 holes, a win for the Lady Captain's team in the Single match play while the 9 hole Greensomes match was a very friendly all square. A very fitting result for the end of this golfing year where very little match play has taken place. Well played to all the ladies and both I and Lady President thank you for taking part.

It is usual to make several announcements after Closing Sides at the social gathering but as this could not take place this year, the announcements are by e mail.

Firstly to catch up on results of previous club competitions that have not already been announced and to congratulate the winners.

Mr President's Prize to the Ladies

This competition was held on Tuesday 8th September and was well supported with 25 ladies playing in the Stableford Competition.

The day started in light rain and wet conditions but it was not long before the sun shone and the temperature rose to summertime temperatures. The course however remained wet and played long but this did not stop the winner Julie Ricketts coming in with an impressive 38 points.

Barbara Evans was second with 35 points and Jo McGregor third after a cpo with Liz Gardner on 33 points.

The winner of the 9 hole Stableford Competition was Liz McGuire.

Mr President arranged a nearest the pin competition on the 4th and 15th holes. The ladies went out armed with individual tape measures to comply with the current restrictions. Jo Pratt was nearest the pin on the 4th and LC on the 15th.

Our thanks go to Mr President for the enjoyable day plus the refreshing drink and very welcome chocolates at the halfway house.

Lady Captain

Sue.
