Charity money raised in 2019

Last years Captains, Pete Wood and Julie Ricketts would like to announce the total of Charity Money raised for the year 2019.

Normally we would have handed over the cheque at a social event but as you know that isn't possible this year.

The sum of £8479.83 was raised for the Macclesfield MS Society. An amount we are both delighted with.

Various events and do's were held over the year, which were well supported by the members of AEGC, family and friends. We wish to thank everyone for their support and generosity.

Best regards,

Pete Wood & Julie Ricketts

Tuesday's Competition on the 17/3/20

Today saw the ladies play their first 18 hole competition which was a bit of a challenge, 5 clubs plus a putter.

After so many course closures it was good to be out on a warm, sunny day although under foot it was very muddy. The course looks its best in the spring with all the daffodils out and the weeping willows coming into a lovely green.

The competition was won by Olwen, Julie and Sue K ( who was the ghost) with 55 points. In second place were Mary, Liz G and Sue K with 54 points.

Betty's 50 years Celebration plus Tuesdays competition

The competition today was an AmAm played in 3's with the 2 best scores counting, playing the back 9 holes.

After playing the ladies all had lunch in the lounge where we were joined by Betty, her daughter and many ladies who played golf with Betty over the years.

Lady Captain explained that today was to celebrate Betty being a member of Alderley for 50 years after an amazing golfing career playing for England on several occassions and also representing Cheshire. She was quite renowned for her excellent putting and still has her putter at home. Jean Walker had been delving into the archives and found several pictures of Betty and the team winning the Bell Cup in 1975 and 1982, there were also numerous newspaper articles recording Betty's successes.

LC presented Betty with a beautiful bouquet of flowers and treated all the ladies to a piece of chocolate cake and tea.

The winners of todays competition was also announced which was won with an great score of 41 points by Jean Walker, Barbara Moss and Sue Kendrick
