Leigh Mixed Away Day
After cancelling our away day to Leigh last year due to bad weather, we made it this year and what a change in the weather.
It was a perfect day, the sun shone and 16 of us including 2 new ladies to the mixed, Janette and Fiona enjoyed the lovely course and meal.
The winning team included Paul Grundy, Roger Hornsby, Janette Smith and Gwyn Holt, well done.
Nearest the pin was Gwyn from the ladies and Mike Davies from the men.
Look forward to seeing as many if not more at The Mixed 9 hole end of the season on Sunday 18th November.

Elsie’s Tour has fun at Oulton Hall
Bringing no colour at all to the Yorkshire course (with the theme of monochrome dictating the clothing) a large group from the ladies section had a couple of rounds at Oulton, charming the staff with their outfits (and golf). It was great to see some of the newer members courageously jump into the spirit of it all, and also play some very good rounds!
Shield B News
Unfortunately the Shield B team just missed going on into the quarter finals, better luck next year.
Lady President's Day
Margaret Sumner, our Lady President celebrated her special day with 23 ladies playing a Stableford competition and enjoying lunch with 14 friends from past golfing days.
There was a presentation in the evening where LP kindly provided a glass of prosecco to all the ladies.
The winner of the competition was Yvonne Grundy with Julie Ricketts and Olwen Davies coming second and third. Both the nearest the pins were won by Sarah Dwyer.
On Monday the 9th of July, the ladies team of Celia, Gwyn, Valerie, Olwen, Alison, Yvonne and Mo played the final group match at home against Bramhall and won 4.5 to 2.5. A good win for the team , well done ladies.
The Business Ladies Team of Janette, Karen and Tracy McGregor played the final group match against Romiley away on Sunday. The team lost 1.5 to 2.5.
We are now waiting to find out if the AEGC Shield and or Business Ladies go onto the quarter finals.
Mr Captain's Prize to the Ladies
What a lovely day the ladies had on Tuesday. Mr Captain kindly changed the match to a stableford........ thank you Mr Captain.
Although it was very hot, there was a breeze which made playing more comfortable than on previous occasions. The course is crying out for water, as I'm sure everyone's garden is! The ground was rock hard and the balls were certainly bouncing- most of the time in the wrong direction, but it didn't matter because the mood on the course was upbeat.
We were served delicious Pimms at halfway by Mr Captain with as many chocolates as you wanted to eat, and Mr Captain had the opportunity to have a laugh and a chat with all the ladies, which went down well on both sides.
In the evening the ladies returned to the club for the winners presentation.
Lady Captain and Lady President were both presented with a bouquet of flowers and chocolates as a thank you for the work they do for the club.
Nearest the pin was won by Wendy Rule, nearest the line by Marion Hall and Helen Williams for winning the 9 hole competition. All received a box of golf balls and chocolates and then it was on to the competition winners.
In 3rd place was Olwen Davies, 36 points, who won a golf top, in second place was Sue Kendrick, 37 points, who won a golf carry bag but the winner with a great score of 39 points and getting her second handicap reduction in just a matter of weeks, was Julie Ricketts who won a pair of golf shoes. Well done to all the winners.
A very big thank you to Mr Captain for making it such an enjoyable day.
