Mixed Golf at Alderley

We’d like to highlight Mixed Golf, which is very much part of the culture at Alderley Edge Golf Club (AEGC). Throughout the year a variety of mixed competitions take place including Friday evening roll ups, 9 hole competitions, knockouts and inter-club competitions. Guests are invited along to participate in the informal events and enjoy the hospitality at AEGC too.

There are two key mixed competitions at Alderley - the Barbara Ames and the Centenary Cup (held later in the season).  In addition, the main inter-club knockout competition that runs throughout the year is the popular Archie Preston Trophy.

The Club are keen for members to sign up to play in the Barbara Ames competition and for the Archie Preston Trophy.

For more information:

  • Details of all the Mixed events and sign-up sheets are posted on the Mixed Golf noticeboard in the Foyer Area
  • Go to the Mixed Golf Section Welcome page – click here: Mixed Section Welcome

We look forward to welcoming you to our Mixed Golf events throughout the year!

Centenary Trophy - 27th June 2021

There was some good scoring today in the Centenary trophy.  This is the only fully mixed board competition in the club and it produced a very close result, as follows:

Debbie Law 38pts (1st prize = £80)

Celia Berent 38pts (2nd prize = £40)

Tom Ricketts 37pts (3rd prize = £20)

Mr Captain 37pts

Sue Kendrick 36pts

Ollie Lane 36pts

Sue Freeman 36pts

The prizes will be put on the winners' accounts at the Pro's shop and , because of Covid regulations, there was no presentation this year.

Mr Captain clearly benefited from all the practice that he has had over the weekend, totalling 54 holes on Friday (to raise £6,000 plus for charity with Mrs C), 18 holes on Saturday and 18 holes in the Centenary trophy.

Centenary Trophy - 30 June

A strong field of fifty competed for the Centenary Trophy in lovely conditions for golf on the last day of June.

Simon Barber ran the well attended presentation filling in for the Captain and Vice Captain in his capacity as Immediate past Captain, demonstrating he has not lost his touch.  Although there was some surprise and no little relief as he didn't use his signature catch phrase "that's a paaand" once.

The unlucky Andrew Boyle finished third losing out on a card play off with a great score of 66. Collecting a large bruise on his leg for his troubles, the result of an errant tee shot played from the 8th tee.

In second place and in the prizes also with a great score of 66 was Jo McGregor.

The winner leaving the whole field in her wake by a clear 7 shots coming in with a brilliant 59, and collecting the trophy was Karen Pennington.

Successful and Sunny Spring Starter

It was great to see the sun for the first mixed event of the season - the eighteen hole 4BBB competition was hotly contested with some really good scores. Best of the pile with an impressive 43 points were Ron and Julie Ricketts, with runners up Brian Foden and Helen Fitch 'lagging'!! behind with 41 points. Nearest the pin was Karen Pennington.

Thanks to Chris's team for a great meal.

The draw for the Barbara Ames was made and the list is now on the Mixed noticeboard in the foyer. The first round needs to be played by Sunday 15th May
