Congratulations to the 72 golf hole challenge team

On a gloriously sunny day, the Captain and his team of 12 golfers from Alderley Edge Golf Club succeeded in completing their 72 golf hole challenge in support of the Captain’s Charity - Macmillan Cancer Support.  Starting at 4:20 am they completed their 4 rounds at 8:45 pm to a warm welcome from a large group of supporters who came to the club to cheer them home. A magnificent achievement for all the 12 golfers.

During the day, the scores from each course produced individual winners: Paul Penney (AEGC morning round), Ollie Lane (Mottram Hall), Gavin Elly (Styal) and Steve Bennett (AEGC evening round). Paul Penney had the best overall score for the 4 rounds.

On the 72nd hole, the Captain held his nerve to play a magnificent shot out of the Captain’s bunker, watched by the large group of members and friends.  An informal social evening followed, with food and drinks plus entertainment from Harmonix Vocal Collective. An excellent evening was enjoyed by everyone.

In his speech, Simon Barber, the Captain, was very pleased to announce that he had been able to raise at least £5,500 towards his target of £10,000. He then thanked all those involved: the other 11 golfers who played the 72 golf holes, Chris Hoyland and the catering staff, Harmonix Vocal Collection for their performance and to all the staff, members, friends and supporters who worked to make the day a success and contribute so much to the fund raising for the Captain’s charity.
