Jubilee Vase - Sat 29 Aug

Mixed weather for this Major, the Jubilee Vase, the morning players seemed to get the best of the weather.

Considering the weather this week I think the ground staff did an excellent job of keeping the course open in the week and in keeping in such good condition for the Saturday. Especially when some other clubs were closed when we were open. Gary Johnstone please pass our thanks on to the team.

About the course, for those that do not know, essential drainage work is to be carried out at the end of September which will hopefully help through the winter.

Back to the competition and Jon Grundy, after some good showings in the Singles and Doubles knockouts came through with a stunning performance with 41 points. He battled the weather and strong field to keep Logan Stanyer in second place.

The top 3 were:

First - Jon Grundy 41 points and now playing off 19 (19.4) after a general play reduction

Second - Logan Stanyer 39 and now playing off 5 (5.1)

Third - Gavin Elly 37 points and now playing off 9 (9.3)

There were not as many 2s as there have been which means with 73 players the 2s pot was £109.50 and was shared by 11 players, including Mr. Captain, earning £9.95 per two.

Like the rest of you, I am looking forward to the Captain's weekend and I hope I play better.

See you on the course

Brian Pennington
