Business Ladies

The BL team finally got their season underway with a home fixture against High Legh Park on the 9th May.

Their first fixture was postponed in April because of snow and it was touch and go if this one would go ahead due to torrential rain and course flooding the previous day. Luckily the rain stopped in time for the course to reopen.

Despite last minute substitutuion, 3 intrepid players , with full waterproofs on hand, finally teed off. It was not an auspicious start golf wise, AEGC lost 2 matches and drew one- a win for High Legh Park.

Karen, Sue F and Fiona enjoyed the company of our opponents and we had a socially distanced, post-match tea ' take away style' on the patio. Many thanks to Sam and team for rising to the challenge of providing hospitality under such restrictive conditions.

BL team are lined up for the postponed match v Tytherington next. You may find them on the practice ground in preparation!

Ladies Match Update

After last seasons cancelled programme everyone has high hopes that matches will be back under way in 2021.

The first fixture to open the season is the Ladies v Seniors. Although usually held in March, this years match was fixed for the 9th April, less than 2 weeks after lockdown easing allowed the course to open. Despite protests of lack of practice and rusty technique, we fielded 12 ladies and Seniors, in pretty chilly conditions.

We could not have the post match socialising and prize giving due to Covid, but we did managed the expected pre match debate over the fairest format to allow a competitive edge fixture.

The Ladies organised the match and we played a Foursomes Stableford, ladies from the red tees and seniors from the yellow tees.

From the 6 games played, the result was a draw at 3 apiece. We all felt the format had been successful.

B Team.

The B team fixtures were home and away legs with Davenport. For the away section on the 12/04 our team consisited of Livvy, Gwyn, Celia, Lisa, Valerie, Julie and Olwen. Unfortunately Valerie injured her back and had to concedd her game. Of the remaining 5, 2 were halved and 3 lost, giving Davenport a win.

The home fixture was played on the 26/04, Valerie was still injured and Livvy unavailable. Marion and Liz played with the other 5. On a beautiful spring day the B team returned a fine result of 6 wins and 1 loss. A great victory for their home fixture.

Covid prevented any post match catering for either match.

Business Ladies.

On the 10/4, BL team prepared to play their first fixture away at Tytheringtonand were a bit perplexed to wake up to a blizzard. After several hasty phone calls to check the conditions in Macclesfield and difficult journeys to get there, it was decided to postpone the match, as by the first tee time the greens were covered with snow. Thanks to Livvy, Helen and Olwen for turning out despite the conditions.

Nine Hole League.

The opening 9HL fixture was home to Heaton Moor, 3 teams of 2 played, Fiona and Mary, Liz and Angela and Jean and Claire. Despite the great weather and a return to post match catering, albeit outside picnic style, unfortunately AEGC was roundly beaten! Well its early days!!!!

Bell Cup.

In the first round of the Bell Cup, AEGC was drawn away to Lymm. Livvy, gwyn, Celia, Lisa, Debbie ( new returning member) LC Karen, and Olwen made up the team and managed a great win of 6:1. We now proceed to round 2 and will play the winner of Manchester Hopwood or Bolton Old Links.

Well done everyone!

Xmas Party Golf

Santa and elf hats and Christmas jumpers were donned for the annual Christmas 9 hole golf competition and the ladies enjoyed the rare opportunity to play in mild clear weather.

The 3 ball AmAm was won by the team of Sue Kendrick, Justine Jackson and Terry Broomhall with Janette Smith taking the prize for the best Christmas outfit.

Unfortunately due to being too busy enjoying the occassion, everyone forgot to take a photographic record of Janette's festive outfit.

Ladies Picnic Take 2, 3/11/20

Ladies,

I really did think we were going to be very lucky with the weather when I turned up at the course this morning but how wrong could I be.

Well done to everybody who turned up and braved the elements to finally finish our extended picnic.

It was very interesting to find that my rescue club sends the ball a lot further across the green than my putter. I did hear however that some people are thinking about replacing their putter altogether with their alternative weapon of choice.

After a very close battle, the results are as follows;

38 points- Gwyn, LVC Karen, LP Alison and Sarah D

34 points- Julie R, LC Sue, Jean, Claire R

33 points- Celia, Fiona, Jo P, Valerie

32 points- Sue K, Mary, Barbara E, Terri

31 points- Jo M, Yvonne, Helen W, Wendy T

31 points- Angela, Olwen, Liz G, Justine

28 points- Marion, Carol, Rose, Ghost ( Sarah D )

Nearest the pin- 4 shoes away- Yvonne

Once again, well done to everyone who turned out for our final comp before lockdown.

Stay safe,

LVC Karen

The 2020 Turkey Trot was a great success and well supported by visitors and AEGC members alike with 10 teams in total entered, 3 visiting teams and 17 visitors in all. Second Prize Winners;  Liz Perry, Moira Ellis and Jackie Fenton also from Breightmet Golf Club with 48 points

Third Place; Yvonne Grundy, Liv Bruster and Judy Read from Alderley Edge Golf Club with 47 points.

The full list of results for all the teams entered will be available on Tuesday 3rd November in the locker room.

On behalf of the Ladies section, I would like to thank LVC Karen Pennington and Claire Roberts for their hard work organising the Turkey Trot and making it an enjoyable day for all the players.

Thanks also to Sue Kendrick, Liz Gardner and Olwen Davies who ensured the halfway house refreshments and cakes were available for the players and Marion Hall for collecting the cards and confirming the scores. To all the cake bakers, thank you for the delicious selection of cakes for the halfway house refreshments which were appreciated by all the players.

The raffle, donations and the sale of the face masks and cakes raised £250 for the Captain's Charity, Dementia UK. A huge thank you to everyone who donated raffle prizes and to Fiona Anderson's grandchildren for the homemade face masks.

The thanks do not stop here, and also go to Sam Murray, Clubhouse Supervisor and her team in the clubhouse and Jacqui Hewitt, Club Bookkeeper for their help and support for this event.

The Turkey Trot will be in the same week in 2021 and one to put in the diary now due to the popularity of this Open/ Invitation event at AEGC.
