Update from the Lady Captain
What a week! We have been on jaunts, qualified for knockout competitions and had a successful Invitation Day!
On Thursday last week, 19 ladies met up in Forest of Arden for 2 rounds of golf, dinner, bed and breakfast. We were sorry that Liz and Sarah had to drop out at the last minute. You were missed.
Thursady afternoon was extremely hot, but the course was excellent if quite tough.Thursday's winners were Karen Pennington, Debbie Law ( guest appearance), Janet Foden and Mo Monk.
Friday's winners on a countback were Karen, Justine, Alison and Debbie. All in all we had a great trip- the food was good, the wine flowed ( as did the beer, Prosecco and Bailey's ). We are very grateful to Lesley Smith for organising it and coralling us all to be in the right place at the right time! Thank you to her.
We found out on Friday that we have qualified for the quarter finals in the ECICS Shield competition, both for B and Plate teams- a tremendous effort by all players over the season. After much phoning around and many diary changes, we have managed to get 2 teams ready to play on Monday 21st September.
The B team are playing Bramhall GC at Marple and the Plate team meet Alsager at Dunham Forest. We wish all players good luck and we have our fingers crossed that no one has to drop out- we have no reserves available.
On Tuesady we held our Invitation Day. The weather was kind and the course was looking fantastic. Eight teams went out and the winning team scored 85 points, congratulations to Lisa Burns, Sue Kendrick and guests. The runners up with 82 points were Janette Smith and guests. Lisa won nearest the pin on the 6th and Sue wasn't only nearest the line but actually on it! We received lots of compliments about the standard of our Halfway House - the Ladies of AEGC did a magnificent job of baking. Thank you to everyone who played, helped, bought and sold raffle tickets and made the day the success it was.
After this busy week, we have these events for your diary:
Lady President's Day is on August 29th, please sign up on BRS. There will be a presentation in the evening, 6.30-7 in the Edge View Suite.
The Club Championship is on the 2/3rd September, this is usually a Gents golf event due to the HI restriction of 14. We are very proud of Janette for qualifying this year and wish her well. Please come and support the winners at the September presentation which is on Sunday 3rd September. Details will follow.
If you wish the Ladies Championship to go ahead on the 7/8th September, please sign up on BRS by next Friday.
Finally watch out for the sign up sheet for the Ladies Seniors match which will be on Friday 8th September.
As I said- what a week.
Kind regards,
Fiona LC

Lady Captain's Day
Lady Captain, Fiona Anderson, hosted her Captain's Day on 11th July. Despite the poor weather forecast most of the ladies who went out in the morning managed to stay dry. Sadly, the same could not be said of the afternoon.
The rain bucketed down and we had a short break for thunder and lightening.
Meeting at the clubhouse in the evening for " cocktails and canapes ", the prizes were awarded to Lisa Burns with a fantastic score of 42 and to Tracy Smith with an equally impressive score, only losing on count back. Mary O'Toole won the 9 hole competition, Tracy Smith was nearest the pin and Sue Freeman nearest the line.
Many thanks to to the Clubhouse Team and the Greens Team for their support. Their obvious hard work contributed greatly to this day.
Fiona, Lady Captain.
Open Day
Our Ladies open day was on June 29th. We welcomed 8 teams of four from other clubs and the competition was a Better Ball Stableford with 2 to count. The event seemed to go very well, all the teams who came said they enjoyed it. They reported finding the course " very pretty but tricky!!" We could have told them that!! They also raved about the halfway house. Well done bakers, great cakes! The winning score was 85 and the runners up had 77 by teams from Breithmat and Bolton.
Booking is already open for next years AEGC Ladies Open on June 27th, we have some return bookings already entered. The raffle for the captain's charity, Diabetes UK raised over £400.
