Ladies Opening Sides
Today saw the start of the golfing calendar for the ladies.
The ladies were divided into two teams, one for lady captain and one for lady vice captain ( in the absence of lady president ), in a greensomes competition. This was followed by a sit down meal in the clubhouse.
Lady Captain welcomed everyone especially all the new members to the club who had come to join us for lunch. She presented Helen Williams with a silver salver for winning the winter league competition with Barbara Moss coming second. Celia Berent was presented with a ball marker clip as part of having the best 4 EWGA medal scores for last year. Celia is invited to play in the regional final at Windermere Golf Club.
Claire Roberts and Angela Atkinson were thanked for organising the day. Also Chris and his team for an excellent lunch, particularly the pudding, Yvonne's mess!
Mary O'Toole ( LVC ) then read out the draw for the Ladies Dobson Trophy Singles and the Foursomes Knockout to a lot of oohs and oh nos from the ladies when they heard who their opponents were!
The climax of the day was the announcement of which team had won today, Lady Captain's team had 2 wins but LVC team had 4 wins so the wooden spoon was presented to LC.
Lady Captain finished the day by wishing everyone a happy golfing season.
Ladies Shotgun Start
Today saw the first of the team competitions for 2017, starting with a 4BBB.
Despite the soggy conditions 17 ladies turned out to play, after which we all enjoyed lunch in the club house.
Karen and Jean won with a very nice score of 21, well done.
Last week was the first Singles Stableford competiton which was won by Mo Monk with 19 points after a card play off with Anne Thornber, well done both ladies.
Mail on Sunday
After some months of discussion with the Daily Mail concerning the early start of this competition, the course conditions and various other factors, the Daily Mail has decided not to run this competition in 2017 and there are doubts it will be run in 2018.
I know many members will be disappointed about this as we have progressed into the 6th and then a couple of years ago, the 7th round of this competition.
The Daily Mail Foursomes will continue as usual.
Final competition for 2016
This is traditionally our Christmas team competition where everyone plays wearing their Christmas hats and other glittery things.
It is played over 9 holes and the winners with an amazing 41 points were Gwyn, Liz G, Mo and Barbara, well done.
We all celebrated Karen's hole in one before sitting down to an excellent Christmas lunch provided by Chris and his team.
Lady Captain then presented Julie with her trophies as she had been away for the AGM. Julie has had a great year, winning the Fairway Trophy and the Medal Final trophy.
After a rousing rendition of The 12 Days of Christmas, ably led by Murial, everyone headed home.
At a well attended AGM, Lady Captain, Alison presented the trophies won during the year.
Alison said how much she had enjoyed her time in office and was delighted to have raised over £1000 for her nominated charity, The British Heart Foundation.
She thanked the committee for all their support and help during the year.
Lady Captain then presented Yvonne Grundy as the new Lady Captain for 2017 and passing over her badge of office.
In the absence of Lady President, Gwyn who was unfortuately unwell, Yvonne introduced Valerie as our Lady President for 2017.
