Winter League - Update 20th December 2020

The second round of the winter league was played on Saturday 20th December in wet conditions .
As the linked table indicates three of the teams have won both games and made a good start,
The captain's team A  moved up the table with a great win supported by Gary Johnstone who was standing in for the Pro .
The table shows the total points scored after adjustments for hole wins/losses per the rules. We have also added an average points per game as some of the teams have played less games and this may remain the situation as the season progresses due to cancellations of fixtures and the impact of rest days .

Gents Closing Sides

Closing Sides has traditionally signified the end of the summer golf season with the Captain's team playing the President's team in Matchplay pairs. The event did take place on Saturday 24th October but with tee off times during the day replacing the shotgun start and with no event in the evening.

The very wet Closing Sides was won 10.5 to 4.5 by the Captain's team. A lot of fun had by all involved, despite the weather.

Stewart Family Golf Day

On Sunday 18th October we held our Family Golf Day at AEGC.  Unfortunately due to Covid restrictions we held a pared down event and followed all the Covid guidelines. We had 23 golfers enjoying the course which was in fine condition.

After the golf, we gathered in our socially distanced tables of six on the terrace for some beers and excellent hot roast beef barms prepared by Chris Hoyland who, by the way, very generously donated his fee to the Club drainage fund.

This was our 3rd year at AEGC and the previous 2 years we had 28 golfers and 60 people sitting down for a meal in the Edge View Suite.  Let’s hope we can do that again next year!

My thanks to AEGC, to Chris and to Sam who, with her excellent team, kept us all safe, fed and watered.

President's Prize (12 Sep) and Singles Stableford (19 Sep)

President's Prize - Sat 12 Sep

The winner was Ed Lawton with a fantastic 64 leading the field by 2 shots.  Ed was a junior when Mr Prez was running the juniors section.

The only other rounds under par on the day were two 66’s with Paul McCormack pipping Andy Slater to take second place on a card playoff.

There were 13 two's on the day, Joshe Towne was somewhat greedy and claimed three of them!!

Singles Stableford - Sat 19 Sep

Really great weather but the scoring was low for a Saturday, especially with a field of 71 players.  The wind and the speedy greens must have had quite an impact, they did on me.

Paul Finney continues with his good run of form as does Keith Doyle and the ever consistent Garry Olson.  Keith was unlucky to come second on a card countback with the top three being:

1 Paul Finney 35
2 Keith Doyle 35
3 Garry Olson 34

There were 11 Twos.

As we come to the end of the season it is good to see the course in such good condition and the weather holding out for us to take advantage of it.

Play well

Captain's Prize - 5/6 September

The Captain's Prize was played for on Saturday and Sunday in somewhat wet and windy conditions (and with tricky pin positions ) which kept the scores relatively high.

Course scratch core was 69 on Saturday and 71 on Sunday !

On day 1 Gary Johnstone , Mike Easton and Ed Lawton took the lead with net 68's.

On day 2 the best score (and the only one under par over the week end ) was the 66 of Mike Davies which moved him up the leaderboard to fifth overall.

Captain Bob Anderson presented the first prize to Drew Roberts with an aggregate score of 139. The runner up was Pete Wood with a 140. Keith Doyle and Gary Johnstone followed in the order with 142's.

This was the first presentation of the season for Bob and the President Paul Penney thanked him for the arrangements including the nice food and drinks !

On Day 1 there were 13 twos. On Day 2 there were just four twos.
