The Legend that is Gordon Smith

After 55 years and 5000 rounds of golf at AEGC Gordon Smith has taken home his clubs as he has decided, at 96 and a half, to retire from golf.  He will still come up to the Club for Social events but he will not be booking the 14.00 Thursday slot anymore.

An article about Gordon was sent to Local Golf News -North West and the Wilmslow Guardian both of which have now published the article.  Pick up your copy in the Clubhouse.

Celebrity Antique Road Trip

Early in the year the production company (STV) who make Celebrity Antique Road Trip approached the Club to see if they could film their 'meet and greet' scenes at AEGC.

Clearly we were delighted to support this great programme and so along came Charles Hanson, Margie Cooper with their celebrities Anthea Turner and Andy Peters.  At the time we asked the production company to give AEGC a credit at the end of the programme and to let us know when it was scheduled to be broadcast.

Unfortunately they didnt let us know when it would be broadcast but did give us a credit at the end.  For those of you wishing to watch the episode you will have to access BBC iplayer as it was shown on the evening of Monday 20th November on BBC2. When searching on iplayer look for 'Celebrity Antique Road Trip' Series 7 episode 6.

Thank you to our Celebrity Antique Road Trip watchers who brought this to my attention!

Inner Wheel Lunch and Fund Raising Auction with Adam Partridge

AEGC were delighted to be the venue for the Inner Wheel Fund raising lunch in October.  Liz Norris who is International Service Organiser filled the AEGC Function Room with many guests, including Christine Sivori who is the Inner Wheel District Five Chair who all enjoyed a delightful lunch and the venue. Adam Partridge the well known BBC Antiques Expert and local Auctioneer, then gave the assembled room a humourous and knowledgeable 'talk through' of the personal and interesting objects that some of the attendees had brought for him.

Liz Norris was so pleased that the event raised £341 for the chosen charity SightBoxes, Nepal - a charity which supports visually impaired children by supplying specially adapted sports equipment.

New Scorecard Sponsors

We are delighted that local Letting and Property The Mobile Agents, based in Alderley Edge Village are now the sponsors of the AEGC scorecards.

The cards look absolutely terrific and with Blair Campbell of The Mobile Agents being a member of AEGC this is a perfect fit with one local friendly Club being sponsored by a  local friendly Business.

Thanks also to Nancy Pemberton of The Mobile Agents for seeing the potential in this sponsorship.

AEGC mentioned at the Cheshire Union Annual Dinner

The Captain, President and Jerry Dixon attended the 66th Cheshire Union of Golf Clubs Annual Dinner at Mere Resort. There were over 200 in attendance. Alderley's hosting of the first ever county 9 hole championship was mentioned in the speeches of both England Golf President John Williams and Sean Ritchie, CUGC President. Matt Jordan of Royal Liverpool received a silver plate to mark his appearance in the Walker Cup, only the second Cheshire player to do so.

Cheshire County Mixed Foursomes

As 2016 winners of the Barbara Ames Mixed Knock out competition Ron and Julie Ricketts entered the County Mixed Foursomes Championship 2017 Competition at Vale Royal.

They had a great day coming 16th out of a field on 32.  Great to see AEGC being represented again in a County Championship
