Cheshire County Mixed Foursomes

As 2016 winners of the Barbara Ames Mixed Knock out competition Ron and Julie Ricketts entered the County Mixed Foursomes Championship 2017 Competition at Vale Royal.

They had a great day coming 16th out of a field on 32.  Great to see AEGC being represented again in a County Championship

British Heart Foundation presentation

Ali Roberts, Lady Captain in 2016 chose British Heart Foundation as her charity.  This charity is very close to her heart as her brother in law, Dan, died whilst asleep alongside her sister Kate, he was only 50.

Kate has taken on numerous expeditions in order to raise money for BHF.  Her goal is to raise £25,000 so the money raised during my year with the support of the Alderley Ladies, would help her to achieve her goal.

Thank you all so much, Kate is an inspiration to us all.

Golf and Giggle

Such a great time at the annual Golf and Giggle on Friday 15th September. 36 golfers and gigglers spanning a great age range giggled and golfed their way round 9 holes with the golfer playing the main shots and the gigglers doing the putting. As the photos show we played under a threatening sky but the most exquisite rainbow and sunset that featured in a lot of the photos. Supper in the Clubhouse completed a very enjoyable evening. The placings, as if they mattered - Tracy and Shivaun unfortunately grasped the wooden spoon, Ken Hall and Mandy Bell were in 4th place, with the Boyles in 3rd place, Derek and Alison Shenton in 2nd place but the winners after 4 years in Singapore were John and Jan Lawton.

Scroll through the photos to see what a great evening we had. For those of you who missed out this year look out for the 2018 Golf and Giggle date and put in your diaries.

9 Hole Cheshire Championship - Synopsis of an excellent day for AEGC

ALDERLEY Edge Golf Club were proud to be the hosts as they staged the first-ever County Nine-Hole Championship in England.

They were delighted to be asked by Cheshire to host their inaugural Nine-Hole Championship and provided great hospitality and a very challenging course for a field including men, ladies and juniors from across the county.

Setting the pace were first out players Alderley Edge Captain Bill Fisher with 38 points and playing partner Sale GC junior Adam Carr with 37 as their nine-hole scores had 18 points added.

Their scores proved to be too hot to handle with Adam winning the runners-up trophy after a cpo with G Johnstone (Alderley Edge) and Tom Hollingworth (Prestbury).

Cheshire President Sean Ritchie said: “Cheshire are proud to be the first county in the country  to hold a Nine Hole Championship and Alderley Edge provided a terrific course for the event which had a good field of entrants and it proved to be a great inaugural event with the youngest player being ten-year-old Aaron Lavelle from Ringway.

“I would also like to thank all of the Cheshire officials for their excellent organisation and work on the day to make this a great starter for County Nine-Hole competitions across the country.”

He presented Bill Fisher with his winning trophy as well as a Cheshire plaque for hosting the event and a pair of county cuff links in recognition of Alderley Edge hosting the event.

Olwen Davies was the highest placed Lady in the competition, so congratulations to her for her excellent round.

More photos to be added.

This Championship is open to golfers of any age in Cheshire, male and female who hold a CONGU handicap 28 for Gents, 36 for Ladies.

If you wish to play in this event and forever be recognised as a County Champion you can enter online through the Cheshire Union Website. Entry is £10.00.

Please note that the start sheet closes at 12 noon on Thursday 24th August, not 17th August as stated on the website.

Due to this prestigious competition being held at AEGC Council have taken the rare decision to close the course all day on Wednesday 29th August, so that our Greenkeepers can have maximum preparation time for this event. The course will re-open following the conclusion of the County Championship. We do hope you appreciate the reasons for this.

If you are not intending to compete you are welcome to come up to AEGC on the morning of 31st August to support the competitors with the first tee time at 11.00am.

We are all looking forward to an excellent day.
